The interview will consist of three parts: first a writing task lasting 30 minutes, this will be set on the day. You will then be asked to deliver a 10 minute starter activity for English or Maths to our panel, please prepare to deliver this session as you would to children. You are welcome to bring any resources/props to assist you in the description and delivery of this activity. Please avoid the use of powerpoint. This starter activity provides you with the opportunity to demonstrate your communication skills and teaching aptitude. Starter activities should have a clear learning purpose, and they should be engaging and interactive. It is your own choice of the age range/key stage that you devise the activity for.
Finally, you will have a panel interview, lasting up to 40 minutes. In the interview session you should expect to be asked to explore and comment on the task completed. The interviewers reserve the right to use different tasks in any particular interview. No advance material will be issued.
Also, you should expect to be asked questions about:
o your knowledge and understanding of primary education
o knowledge and understanding of the school curriculum
o why you are suited to a school-based route into teaching.
You must bring with you to the interview:
o original certificates for your qualifications: degree, GCSE (or equivalent) certificates for English, Maths and, for Primary applicants, Science. We do not require any other certificates
o a transcript of your degree content
o original formal photographic identification (e.g. passport or driving licence)
o For overseas qualifications your original NARIC compatibility statement
o Confirmation of skills tests passed (if completed)
o Attached Work History form
For this interview I decided to do my starter activity based around the book 'Giraffes Can't Dance' I focused on the rhyming words in the book and created a worksheet for the children to use to connect the rhyming words. I used images to related to the words so the children will find them easier to read.
I also made a second sheet for the children to use, they can fill in the missing letter to spell 'bee' and also write their own word in the blank space. They can then draw a picture and potentially colour in the pictures.
