Light Night Started in Leeds 11 years ago in 2005 and has been happening every since, it is a celebration of art and light coming together in Leeds. It is an opportunity for artists to collaborate and change the look of the city for just two nights.
In 2015 alone it attracted 60,000 people to Leeds.
My favourite performance from the night was by Spark! a street performance group who combine intense drumming, well choreographed dance with colour changing drums. Loads of people stopped and gathered around to see them perform, they interacted well with the audience and were truly mesmerising to watch! To say it was out in the open just in front of the town hall the acoustic was amazing and the beat went right through your body. We watched them for well over half an hour and were so sad to see them finish, we didn't want it to end.
This installation was created using old plastic bottles, from far away they look like dandelions and are very delicate but it's not until you get up close that you can see what they're actually made of. I think this was such a nice and unique way to reuse something like plastic bottles because so many of them get thrown away daily.
This installation was in millennium square and it told a story of the phoenix in the stone, it was a Yorkshire based story and fit in really well with the fact the light night was based in Leeds. It felt like a celebration of all things Yorkshire and brought all the elements of the night was together: light, art, Leeds and performance.
Overall I really enjoyed the experience and think it will be a thing I go to annually with friends and family because I loved it so much, I cannot wait for next year already!
